The Summer Cap Hill Weekend Has Quietly Moved East

The Summer Cap Hill Weekend Has Quietly Moved East

  • July 9, 2026

For years, a Capitol Hill Saturday in July started at Civic Center Park. Food trucks on the lawn, a concert on the pavilion steps, the Capitol dome as backdrop. In 2026, that gravitational center has shifted. With Civic Center Park under renovation, the programming that used to anchor the west edge of the neighborhood has scattered, and the events that residents actually plan their weekends around are now clustered a few blocks east, around Cheesman Park and the York Street edge of the Botanic Gardens.

If you already live here, this changes the shape of your summer. The walk is different. The dinner is different. Even the parade route reads differently. Here is what the new map looks like.
